Fort Hunt Park is amazing. It's full of history and mystery. You can walk all around and on the bunkers forts but sadly you can't go in them. Big wide open fields and many paths to play or walk your dogs. Haven't seen an off leash area for them. There's a lil playground for the lil ones and 3 bathrooms 1 at the entrance (the cleanest) 1 in the middle and one all the way in the back of the park. Both are Grose. I absolutely love this park. I always learn something new everytime I come here
The park is well kept and very pretty. The Endicott system batteries are well preserved with very little graffiti, and are fairly easy to access via trail. It was really cool to learn about the forts history during World War Two as a top secret center for interrogating POWs, although most if not all of the buildings from that time are now gone. Be aware: theres a lot of ice in the area behind Battery Mount Vernon during the winter!
I didn't know this park is here. I am so glad I stopped by. The fort has been neglected and people drew on the walls. Therecare some historic markers/signs. Seemed lonely and quiet. There weren't anyone here checking out the fort but me. It's incredible how many sacrificed and are sacrificing for this country, and we have so many who are so unappreciative of what this country has to offer. The direction we are heading is going to make many look back and remember the "good days when we had freedom". Sad time we are in...
Just a beautiful park. Ample parking spaces, separate bathrooms, lots of trash bins. Some picnic tables are worn out though. The scenery coming through the park is just breathtaking
Always fun to walk around the fort. Watched some cricket. Walked my dogs. Played Pokémon Go. Lots of pokestops and loads of gyms. Sad they moved the horses out of the park.
Great time there at our Ski Club's (the Fagowees) 55th Anniversary Picnic. The bathrooms could be a little closer, but a great park!
Located off the George Washington Parkway, two miles from Mount Vernon, Va. Locals use the park for picnicking and recreation. I was not familiar with the history. The land was George Washington's farmland to a Spanish-American War fort to a top secret intelligence camp during WWII. There are 6 picnic areas, restrooms, 3 softball fields, playground and wide open spaces. It was nice day, I was able to discover the defensive positions left from the war period. I hiked down the trail, also shared with bikers, to capture a view of Ft. Washington, which is on the Maryland side of the Potomac River.
We recently rented lot D for my daughters 2 year old birthday party. It was such a cute place. The process to rent it out online was quick and easy. Their system automatically has reminders and noticed before your event. You have to get a license if you want to rent out a moon voice but other than that they allow beer and wine without an ABC license. There is so much park space around the gazebo that we set up a soccer field and had so much fun. The lot has a driveway up so you can drive up and place your grills or unload. They allow you to decorate and also placed a port-a-potty close since the neared bathroom facilities are pretty far away. There is also lots of parking. Great time and would love to rent it out again.
